Group reading activity Story 3 of 4

Good Morning.
You will need to go to the next book your group has not read. Read the story as a group, talk through all of the questions as a group, then as individuals go through and answer the questions in your literacy book (A1 Standards). (speech finalists work on your speeches)

Don't forget to stay focussed and on task, I will be asking the reliever (you know what you will be doing if the behaviour is not up to my standard.)

Click here to take you to reading instructions

If by some miracle you get finished I have posted a handwriting poem below.
I expect to see a border and picture that relates to the poem.

When you have finished, self assess your writing out of 5 for each of the following criteria 0 = not at all 5 = You could not have done it any better

Letters on the line 0-5     Letters sloped 0-5     Even sized letters 0-5    even spacing between words 0-5
Neat border and relating picture 0-5

If you are really outstanding and manage to get all of the above finished, you can go onto studyladder or learning games from our blog

Term 3 Week 9

Lets use the Chromebooks!

You will need to go to the following online reading link with a buddy. Read and answer the questions. When you have finished you will need to take a screen shot of the computer screen(s) to prove to others that you have completed the task.

(Problem solving) How can you learn to take a screen shot? All computers can do it. Come up with some ways to find out.

Team New Zealand robbed

Created on September 21, 2013
team nz
Team New Zealand have been robbed victory in the the 34th edition of the America’s Cup.
They were leading the 12th race of the series by over 1km when the race as abandoned due to the race not been finished with 40minutes. The Kiwi boat was just meters from the finish line.
The wind today was the lightest we have seen in the competition and the Kiwi boat was much better than the American boat in the lighter conditions.
To make matters worse Oracle then went on to win the final race of the day.
That makes  the current score  8-3 to Team New Zealand.
The America’s Cup is the oldest active trophy in international sport and Team New Zealand is attempting to become the first team outside of America to win it twice.
Article written by  Editor

  1. What does it mean when it says "Team New Zealand have been Robbed?
  2. How many Americas Cups have been raced?
  3. By how far were Team NZ winning the race when it was abandoned?
  4. What does abandoned mean?
  5. Why do you think they have a time limit?
  6. What is One fact about the Americas Cup?
  7. What are Team NZ trying to be the first at?

Chrome Books

The year 6 children at Te Wharau school are very lucky
as they have received 24 chrome books.
At the moment the year 6's are trying the chrome books.
But next term they will be available for everyone in the school to use
them.

Totem Poles!

A special group was selected from the senior classes
to design and paint five totem poles
dedicated to the schools motto C.H.A.R.M

Stands for cooperation

  Stands for honesty

 Stands for attitude

    Stands for resilience

 Stands for manners

Each totem pole had a different theme.
C was based around Music and the love of singing in our school.

H was based around the 50's with bright and bold colours against a dark
background. Which of course would make sense as the school was built in
1954.

A was based around the Maori culture in the school.

R was based around sweets and lollies

M was based around the children at Te Wharau school with a child hand and a childs foot
all over it.
